ZSL Photography Prize 2014

19th September 2014
After 6 months from initially entering into the ZSL (The Zoological Society of London) Photography Prize competition and being informed in May that I was shortlisted to the finals, I am very proud to finally announce that my image 'True Blue' has been awarded Highly Commended in the category Deep & Meaningful ....

I can't express how chuffed, excited and proud I am to be awarded in such a fantastic competition.. My image was chosen out of thousands of entries from around the world by a panel of judges including ZSL Honorary Conservation Fellow and television presenter Kate Humble and ornithologist Bill Oddie OBE and I have to add that it was a great honour to meet Bill, a surreal moment..
When I first arrived at London Zoo and saw my image at the preview exhibition I was not prepared for the impact of seeing my image so Larger then life, I can't describe the feeling of overall excitement, nerves and sheer pride, it was such a buzz and the beaming smile on my face, well that just said it all really..

The Champagne was flowing and the whole atmosphere was amazing, to meet all the other winners was brilliant, a fantastic evening.
Among some wonderful comments throughout the event about my image, Victoria of ZSL said

"Your image is not only visually stunning but also thought provoking, which is essential as we hope that the exhibition will help to challenge the viewers’ perception of and relationship with the natural world and its inhabitants.
The exhibition will run throughout 2014 at ZSL London Zoo and will then be exhibited at Whipsnade in 2015 allowing people the chance to appreciate your image"

I would like to thank and congratulate the ZSL Director General Ralph Armond, Victoria, Sarah and all the Team at ZSL for making me feel so welcome and putting on a fantastic exhibition, you all did an amazing job, it was a incredible evening and I have to say one of the best moments in my photography career so far, thank you..

On a more personal note, I also would like to thank ALL my family & friends for all their love and support, without which I would not have achieved what i have so far.. Thank you to all my fans and followers, you are all amazing and I am truly honoured that you enjoy my work and that I have inspired so many of you through my work. Making people happy and smile through my images and bringing you joy makes all the hard work worth while. Bringing nature and wildlife to people across the world through my facebook page and website is why I started it all, Animals and Wildlife are my true passion, its who I am, my soul, my heart belongs to them and I just hope that through me, through my work others can enjoy, learn and above all love and respect animals as much as I do..
"When I look into the eyes of an animal I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul."
A D Williams..

Photo comment By val and gerald chittock: both me and Marie's dad are soooo very proud of what she has achieved, over a short period of time, she has always loved animals since she was a child, but its been the last 2-3 years that her passion has become a real reality, working very hard to achieve her goals, she has been like this all her life if there was something she wanted she would go hell for leather after it, her latest achievement we have no doubt in saying it will not be her last, keep going sweetheart there is still more out there for you to get, you are a fantastic person and photographer we love you. mum and dad xxx
